Two essentials for our everyday life at uni: a stable internet connection and helpful digital tools. Below we’ll tell you (almost) everything you need to know.
Our Wi-Fi is called Eduroam. Eduroam is an initiative that enables students to access free Wi-Fi at all partner universities, including the University of Salzburg. Once you log in, you have free Wi-Fi access at all faculties in Salzburg – and many other locations abroad. Very convenient! We always notice when we’re on holiday and suddenly have Wi-Fi . A clear sign that a uni (with free toilets!) is close by.
To sign up, you need your user name (your student email without “stud”: max.mustermann@sbg.ac.at) and the same password as on all other uni platforms (e.g. PlusOnline). You can find more detailed instructions on the university’s intranet (which can be accessed when you’re connected to the university network). Have fun browsing!
Student Place
A digital tool that allows you to quickly check emails and to dos? To see all institutions and offers by the university at a glance? To stay up to date on events for students organised by the ÖH and the student representatives? To connect with others?
You can find all of this on Student Place with just one login. Oriented, informed and connected at the University of Salzburg.
Microsoft and other tools
A uni account is very convenient! It comes with free Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. free of charge on your PC or Mac. In addition, you can also use OneDrive with looooooads of storage and the opportunity for several people to work simultaneously on documents. This has facilitated our life as students (A LOT!). Here you can find the instructions by our IT-services.
The university’s VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to access many of the library’s books and our intranet. VPN (plus.ac.at)
We can also access Citavi for free – amazing! Not having to create a bibliography by hand sounds tempting, right? We certainly think so! You can find more information on Citavi and other free software for students here on our intranet (VPN needed).
Intranet & Login-Portal:
Some of us have been using intranet since day one. Others don’t find it until the end of their studies. We have to admit, we rather fit into the latter category BUT our intranet is really convenient. It allows you to find all important information about our university – just use the search bar.
We can also recommend login.sbg.ac.at. On this login portal you’ll find many useful digital services by the University of Salzburg, from the IT-Service Desk to Plustrack.
