We’re huge fans of the ÖH and the work they do! What is the ÖH? ÖH stands for “Österreichische Hochschüler:innenschaft”, which translates to “Austrian National Union of Students”.
The federal representation of the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) is the representation of all students at universities, private universities, universities of applied sciences and universities of education.
The ÖH is directly elected every two years by all students and is the voice of the students towards the universities and politics. – https://www.oeh.ac.at/en/
For you as a student, the ÖH is really important! Here are some of the amazing things ÖH offers to you in Salzburg:
This is your place to be if you have ANY questions concerning your studies! You can find brochures and leaflets about different topics and your mensa card. If you have less than €200 available for food per month, you can apply for it at the start of each semester and save money at the cafeteria. We think the ÖH Support Centre is definitely worth a visit!
Do you have an idea for a club? Is there a topic or hobby you are passionate about? Then how about founding a club yourself? The ÖH offers you the opportunity to found your own club, inspired by British and American societies, to make student life in Salzburg more attractive and active.
We really appreciate this offer! You can also join an already existing club. Here are some of our favourites:
for gardening enthusiasts: Strebergarten
for book lovers: Studentischer Buchclub (bookclub)
for those with wanderlust: ESN-Salzburg
The Frei:Raum is a place to chill, meet friends, host workshops or events and much more. Whether you want to cook with friends or host a discussion group, it’s all possible here without any pressure to consume. Students can visit Frei:Raum during its opening hours or rent it for free – uncomplicated and easily accessible.
Do you need a hammer, a jigsaw, a screwdriver or a sewing machine for a creative project? Then contact the ÖH tool rental service and get started!
You’re about to submit your term paper and then it hits you: the fear of plagiarism. Did we cite everything the correct way? Have we forgotten a source? Whenever you submit something at the University of Salzburg, it will get checked for plagiarism. The ÖH has a solution for you:
Do you have an idea for an event or another project you’d like to realise? The ÖH may help with making it happen, by offering guidance and financial support.
The ÖH is also a great organisation to contact if you’ve got questions about financial support programmes, grants and scholarships. Below you can also find contact information and other useful links to go through your studies as financially comfortable as possible.

The ÖH offers great scholarships for students. Whether you need financial assistance with regards to/for your mental health, commuting costs or childcare, take a look and you might find support that fits your circumstances. We’ve also successfully applied for scholarships in the past and it wasn’t difficult at all. Thanks ÖH!
Are you looking for a job, a flat share or a babysitter? Or do you offer any of those? If so, the ÖH Börse is the place to be! They have a marketplace for jobs, flats, a flea market (for items like clothes, furniture, etc.), books and tutoring.
Do you have problems with your landlady or landlord? Unfortunately, some of us know what that’s like. Luckily, the ÖH offers a “Mietrechtsberatung” (advice on tenancy issues), which might be able to help. It cooperates with the “Mieterschutzverband“ (Tenants’ Protection Association). It’s free and has already helped some of us in these uncomfortable situations!
