The first place we think of when we\u2019re hungry on a uni day: the cafeteria, for sure! There you can find quite inexpensive meals, a fair selection of different yummy food (always a vegetarian or vegan option) and good coffee!

Markets<\/b><\/h3>

Our recommendation for those who value regionality: the local markets.<\/p>

If you\u2019re free on a Thursday morning, we can recommend the most famous market of Salzburg, called Schranne<\/strong>.
The market takes place every Thursday from 5 am to 1 pm, at Mirabell Square, in front of St. Andrew\u2019s church. There, you can find everything your heart desires: organic and regional food, but also flowers and arts and crafts.<\/p>

If you\u2019re not free on Thursdays, you can also check out Gr\u00fcnmarkt<\/strong> (in the old town on Universit\u00e4tsplatz), which is open daily. Every Friday from 6 am to 2 pm there is also a farmers\u2019 market<\/strong> on Kajetanerplatz, where you can buy yummy organic products.<\/p>

Admittedly, buying your food at a local market isn\u2019t the cheapest option. However, browsing through the market, admiring the scents and colours, tasting different foods on the spot and, most importantly, chatting to the friendly vendors already makes the experience worthwhile. \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Does food waste bother you? We get that! If you want to do something about it and you have nothing against surprises, the app Too good to go might be for you!<\/p>

This app enables you to pick up surplus food from supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants \u2013 for a reduced price.<\/p>

Another special feature: The offers are a bit of a mystery bag, since you never know exactly how much and what you\u2019ll receive! Hence, every order is a small surprise.<\/p>

A fridge in a university hallway? What might seem strange at first actually isn\u2019t! Those are \u201cFairteiler\u201d and can be found at the GW and NLW.
Sometimes you may be lucky and find yummy goods in there \u2013 if you do, you\u2019re free to just take them with you. You can also bring food there yourself (of course only food that is still good to eat!), for example, if you\u2019re about to go on holiday or received something that you don\u2019t like.
